PaR Systems, Inc. was contracted to perform a 3-D simulation of a P-3 Orion,
a proposed Mobile Manipulator, and a standard-type FLASHJET Stripping Head.
The 3-D Models were imported into a kinematics simulator. This program
allowed all axes of the proposed manipulator to be utilized - exactly like a
real robot - to study reach and accessibility of the Stripping Head around the
P-3 Orion Model's surface. The results below show the capabilities assumed
during simulation.
Overly conservative safe clearances between the Stripping Head and
propellers, yielded an estimated 77% reach ability. Changing the rules
could have given a much higher percentage of reach ability.
The 3-D Manipulator Model was vastly improved from initial to final version.
This made the simulation very worthwhile.
